How to Stop Raids on Your Discord Server

A raid is many accounts joining at once to flood your channels. Here is how to stop one before it starts and shut it down when it does.

What a Raid Looks Like

In a raid, dozens or hundreds of accounts join within seconds and flood your channels with spam, slurs, links or mass mentions. The accounts are often bots or brand new alts, and the goal is to overwhelm your moderators before they can react.

The best defense has layers: keep new accounts from posting, catch suspicious accounts when they join, and lock the server on its own when a raid starts.

Make New Members Verify First

A verification gate keeps raid accounts in a single welcome channel until they pass a captcha. Bots that can't solve it never reach your channels.

Lock the Server When a Raid Starts

Raid lockdown watches how fast members join. When the number of joins you set arrive within the seconds you set, Verifier locks the server, or only the lockdown channels you pick, and unlocks it when the time is up.

Raid lockdown is part of Premium Gold.

  • Joins: how many members must join to count as a raid, from 3 to 100.
  • Within seconds: how quickly they must join, from 5 to 300 seconds.
  • Lock for minutes: how long the lockdown lasts, from 5 minutes to 24 hours.
  • Pause invites: also pause new invites while the lockdown lasts, for up to 24 hours. Verifier needs the Manage Server permission for this.

Lock with the Dashboard

Log in to the dashboard with Discord, pick your server and open Lock. The dashboard only lists servers where you have the Manage Server permission.

  • Raid lockdown: turn on raid lockdown, set the joins, the seconds and how long to lock for, choose whether to pause invites, then click Save Changes.
  • Manual lock: click Lock All Channels to lock the server, or Lock Lockdown Channels if you picked lockdown channels, and Unlock All to open it again.

Lock with Slash Commands

/lock and /unlock need the Manage Roles permission, and /lock settings also needs Manage Server.

  • Raid lockdown: run /lock settings, click Edit under Raid Lockdown to set the joins, the seconds and how long to lock for, then turn on Raid Lockdown and, if you want, Pause Invites.
  • Manual lock: /lock all locks every channel, or only your lockdown channels, and /unlock all opens them again.

Catch New Accounts When They Join

Raid accounts are often created minutes or days before the raid. The alt identifier catches accounts younger than an age you set, from 1 to 90 days, and can hold, time out, kick or ban them before they post.

Block Spam with AutoMod

Verifier's AutoMod module creates Discord AutoMod rules, so Discord itself blocks the messages, even in the middle of a raid.

Turn rules on from the AutoMod page in the dashboard or with /automod settings. Both need the Manage Server permission.

  • Bad words: swear words in English, Turkish, Polish and Czech.
  • Links: web links and Discord invites.
  • Spam: messages Discord flags as spam.
  • Mention spam: messages that mention more users and roles than the limit you set.

During and After a Raid

With Premium Diamond, freezing verification stops all new verifications for 30 minutes up to 7 days, or until you unfreeze it, so raid accounts can't get in while you clean up.

Every lock, raid lockdown, alt identifier catch and verification is recorded in the audit log and can be posted to a log channel, so you can see who joined and what Verifier did.
